I would like to thank you for participating in the Run Down Crime 5K, 1 Mile Health Walk or kids' Mascot Chase. And thank you for supporting the Tucson Police Foundation. All proceeds will benefit the Tucson Police Department's crime prevention programs.
Please read the following carefully and make sure everyone running with you also reads it. This information might make your life easier and it will avoid lots of headaches.
Run day registration and packet pickup opens at 5:30 AM at the NW corner of 22nd St and Randolph Way. If you do not pick up you package on Friday please make sure you do so on Saturday morning. You will need your bib number to receive an official time and breakfast!
The race starts at 7:00 AM so please don't be late. Please park at the Hi Corbett stadium: we are not allowed to park along Randolph Way. You can reach the parking area from three streets (Country Club, Broadway, and 22nd) but I suggest using Country Club or Broadway. The 22nd St entrance will be busy so please try to avoid it. The parking is a quarter mile from the start so it's not that bad.
It will be cold and dark so please plan accordingly. If you have your bib number, you can go straight to the start line. You don't have to check in, but you're welcome to stop by for a small breakfast.
Again, we will start at 7:00 AM. Please line up 10-15 minutes before the start of the race. If you're planning on arriving to the event at 6:30 AM or later you're probably going to miss the start. We don't want that.
You'll be running on a golf course and it will be new to most of us. So please be careful and use common sense. Don't step on the greens (nice green carpet-like areas around the holes with yellow flags). Watch your step every time you cross the cart path. The course was designed with safety in mind but it's not easy. It will be hilly with a few drops and climbs.
The course is marked with a white line and yellow tape. Please stay on the course, don't cut across. Just follow the line or the runner in front of you and you won't get lost. Some parts are narrow, please be courteous. And don't fall in the lake! Don't twist your ankle in the sand-trap! The grass might be wet so be careful. Better to slow down than get injured.
The scenery will be great: it will be a nice, quiet, peaceful experience running a cross country event! Enjoy the view, the silence, and the grass.
When you finish please make sure your bib is facing forward and is visible to the timing crew. After you have crossed the finish line, please stay in line — don't cut in front of other finishers. Try to hang out around the finish line and cheer for your fellow runners or walkers.
At around 7:45 AM we will start the kids' Mascot Chase, an event that will be fun for all of us!
After all that, walk across the street and enjoy the expo. We'll have breakfast for you as well. You're done, walk around and have fun. Don't pet the K-9s!
Results will be posted as soon as possible so please be patient. The Awards Ceremony starts at 8:20 AM; try to wait for it and celebrate yours and others' accomplishments. We'll have 84 age group awards so there is a good chance you'll receive one.
So once again: try to avoid the traffic and arrive early. If you have your bib you don't have to check in. Race starts at 7:00 AM. Don't miss it. Have fun running on a gorgeous golf course but pay attention and be careful, as most of us are not used to it.
If you think the course is hard just think that you're suffering for a good cause. After the event, please send me an e-mail (laszloo@hotmail.com) with your comments. We want to make the event even better next year so I would love to hear from you.
Send us all your pictures and we'll post them on our website.
Thanks for reading and have fun,
